Leadership

Thank you for your interest in ARCS Foundation Seattle Chapter.  I couldn’t possibly be more enthusiastic about our organization—our mission, our successful outcomes, our dedicated members and staff, our academic partners, and the incredible generosity of individual and corporate donors throughout the years.  By exploring our website and learning more about both ARCS Foundation National and our Seattle Chapter, I trust that you, too, will share my enthusiasm!

In 2023-24, ARCS Seattle Chapter celebrates 45 years of igniting scientific innovation.  Our mission is unwavering:  to advance science and technology in the United States by providing unrestricted financial awards to bright, curious, and engaged PhD and MD/PhD scholars in the STEM disciplines. ARCS financial support enables our State’s prestigious research institutions, The University of Washington and Washington State University, to attract outstanding students from all over our Country.  In turn, our deeply committed Scholars, transform their knowledge into solutions to essential problems, impacting our world for the better.

The impressive trajectory of our Chapter underscores the strength and durability of this approach.  What began in 1978 as a grassroots women’s organization supporting 2 scholars with a $ 500 single-year fellowship at the University of Washington has progressed over the last 45 years to provide three-year awards of $22,500 for a cumulative $23 million to over 1500 ARCS Scholars at the UW and WSU. This year alone, we will support 160 Scholars with nearly $1 million in awards.

ARCS Foundation Seattle Chapter is often described by the word “optimistic.”  We are, and for a good reason.  Over the years, our ARCS Scholars and Alums have tackled some of the most critical issues facing humanity and our planet.  They have contributed to ground-breaking discoveries and been part of keeping Washington State at the forefront of technical and scientific innovation.

We would be happy to field any questions you have about ARCS and about ways to join us in championing the next generation of scientific talent.
